Morels are wild mushrooms that are found all over the world.
Each geographical latitude on the planet has its time for the morel.
In the woods of southern Illinois this time is April.
Morels flourish in this month, alongside early spring flowers
...then disappear as suddenly as they came.
Searching for this mysterious life form requires focusing
on the world at your feet, examining the life under a leaf or
in a clump of ferns. The components of the forest floor
--twig, beetle or snail--
lay in perfect arrangement, as if in a miniature botanical
garden. Hunting morels can shift vision away from the
“big picture” and take it to the “usually unseen” for a while.
The earth, viewed a square inch at a time, holds the beauty,
balance and wonder of a vast landscape...when you look closely.
Our diminutive sculptures depict the world of the morel
in its forest floor setting. Real morels, twigs, leaves
and other elements are used to make a mold. Then, by method of
lost wax casting, these components are re-created in sterling silver.
Each sculpture piece is different, with no two being identical.
Sculptures come with the hardwood display element pictured
(typically cherry...indicated if another wood)
and is gift boxed with story text and silver weight notated.
